This page is dedicated and designed for Jinx, our little kitten.
Mr. Jinx is a Seal Point Siamese kitten. He is our little baby that we got when he was 9 weeks old. At 11 weeks Jinx developed diarrhea. We took him to the vet and the vet seemed to think he was just trying to adapt to a new diet. He also had a low grade fever and the doctor did not want to give him any shots at this time. He put him on medication and during this time Jinx seemed like a normal little kitty. At 15 weeks he started acting different and becoming very lazy. A few days later (this past Tuesday) he started to develop a large gut. We figured he was just eating food from the other 2 cats we own (Tiara and Spencer) and just getting fat. The next day he stopped playing (as kittens do) and just sleeping all the time, we also noticed that his gut was very large. We took him to our vet on Thursday. He took a sampling of the fluid in Jinx's tummy and we received a call on Friday that from the preliminary test, Jinx has tested positive for Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) the wet kind. He is now 16 weeks of age.
As I write this page, Jinx is sleeping on my lap.
In case you don't know what FIP is, I will provide you with links and a short description of what it is.
FIP is a disease that is the leading infectious cause of cat death. There is no definitive test for it, but it is diagnosed by ruling out all other things. There is a test for exposure to the corona virus, but over 50% of cats have had exposure to the virus, however most of the time it is harmless. Symptoms of FIP include fluid buildup in the abdomen, low grade fever, anorexia, diarrhea, and generally not acting right. Kittens and elderly cats are most at risk. Unfortunately, FIP is fatal usually within a few weeks of showing symptoms. There is currently NO CURE for Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
If you own a cat (s), you need to take the time to read about the symptoms of FIP. This is something every cat owner should know about.

| 10/01/03 | Today feels like the worst day in my life. I have tears coming out of my eyes as I type this. This morning at around 1:00am my baby Jinx passed away. He was only about 16 1/2 weeks old. This disease took him over in only 5-7 days from a happy kitten to nothing. For most of the day, he would just lay there and not move. I went over to him a few times just to make sure he was ok. I wrapped him up in a blanket and carried him around for at least 2 hours today. He never really ate today even though Jill tried to feed him with a baby bottle. He went to sleep and just didn't wake up, so I don't think it was too painful for him. I just wish there was something I could of done for my little baby. He had so much to live for. We really gave him as much love as we could in these last few days. I really wish there was a way to save this little meezer..... ; ( |
| 9/30/03 | Today, I left work early because Jill said he was not looking too good. Things have gotten much worse for the little guy. Now he can not walk good at all. It looks like his hind legs are giving up on him. When he tries to walk, his hind legs are sliding out from underneath him. He's has his claws out trying to make grip on the floor when he walks. I will give him credit though, I watched him walk down the hallway, even though he was having problems, he still did it and made it about 15 feet before stopping and resting. He is still getting around but, he sleeps most of the time. He's still not eating. Jill picked up a new flavor of baby food so it might work for him. He is starting to look a little weak though. Jinx looks like he lost weight and starting to really show it. I hope he eats something tonight so he can gain some strength back, it would give us some hope here. I just wish there was something we could do to help him ;( |

Over the last day, Jinx would eat something and vomit (but, after a few hours). Even the baby food, he would not hold down. I called the Vet and see if there is anything I can do for the little guy. My Vet gave me 2 things to try for him one would help digest the food and one would take care of him vomiting. So far, so good. He ate very little tonight but, he has not got sick as of Midnight. There is something I have noted, he looks slimmer but, not in a good way. His legs are getting slimmer but, his gut is slimming with it as well. He really is not looking good right now. I have my fingers crossed. |

+++++++++++++++++....HEHE, Jinx just typed that! Jinx stopped eating solid foods on Friday. He would eat a little and then vomit. He cant chew hard, solid foods. Jinx's Auntie Patty suggested that we get him some baby food. He ate HALF the jar! I actually had to take it away because I was afraid he would get sick. He is now roaming around the house...and typing on the computer : ) He is much perkier than before. At least he has something in his little tummy! |

Each page will provide a link to the next page, so click on Page 1 to go though them all.
Note: The following pictures on these links have pictures of Jinx, one of the cutest kittens out there. I have tried to keep all the details as possible so the picture size might be kind of large. The download times will be more for people on dial up connections. Dial up people, it might take 30 seconds to 3 min to download each of the pages due to the size of the pictures. The download times will be effected by how many people are viewing the site at a time. If it's slow, please give it a few min to see our baby.
I would like to thank a few people for help understanding what this disease is and what it does...
My sister Patty, who has been great in support and help for little Jinx
Elizabeth Emmert, Who has provided very informative info
Also, Sandy Henry who I talked to on the phone and made good suggestions for the care of little Jinx
Thank you again for all your support though this hard time.
